SunnyBank
Cooping myself at home is not a healthy thing to do during this one month holiday. Hence, today i decided to go take a look at things in Sunnybank. it's a another chinatown-like place located at another neighbourhood. haven't had the chance to visit yet, so i finally took the chance and time today to get my feet down there for some strolling. had to go to the UQ Lake bus stop at university to take bus 109 or 209 to Mater Hill, but i missed a stop and ended up at Southbank bus stop. and then i realised that there wasn't bus 136 like my friend told me, so i had to try my luck with bus 135. it didn't work out so well; i was brought to the City bus interchange. fortunately, i managed to jump on the correct bus, and soon i was on my way to Sunnybank.
this 'Little Singapore' was my main motive to be at Sunnybank. it's located at the Market Square part of Sunnybank. friends said food here is not bad. other than Singapore food, there were many other varieties which are mainly asian food like Hong Kong food, Vietnam, Taiwanese, Thai and Malaysian. there's also supermarkets and bakery.
i got settled down and ordered. it's a restaurant with simple furnishing. i was there at about 4pm, so there weren't many patrons.
海南鸡饭. it's been more than 4 months since i ate proper chicken rice, what did you expect me to order?
looks not bad right... the serving of the chicken is alot. but the sauce is slightly too salty, and the chilli is not nice. but then, this the best i can get here, so can't expect too much. cost Aud$8.80.
after eating, i paid and left. i was walking across the carpark and then this licence plate caught me attention. i think only the owner will know why.
i went to the nearby plaza to take a look. there's nothing interesting in there. it's just another very big mall with the typical shops, supermarket, cinema and food court.
oh... these are muffins from Muffin Break. initially they were having a promotion, buy 2 muffins and you get 1 free.
it took me quite some time to consider if i should buy some for tmrw breakfast or snack during noon. by the time i decided to get some, the promotion became 1 for 1. haha... lucky me. very nice and large muffins, each Aud$3.60. without hesitation, i bought 4. choc chip, boysenberry, apple cinnamon and lemon.
this is the first thing i ate that looked like crap. it's actually red bean paste jap cakes. the same you get in singapore. 80 cents.
the thing about being in Brisbane, is that you've gotta take time to sit down and enjoy the scenery. i rested for a while at seats just by a busy traffic light. stop and smell the flowers.
and then... something caught my attention. haha...
look at the place. rows upon rows of wine.
merlot. Aud$7.90 per bottle.
look at the damn prices of wine. one bottle of wine is cheaper than a Mcdonald's meal. by george, where else can you find alcohol so cheap! and now you know why people here get drunk so easily.
this is like a paradise for me lah....
Absinthe!!! (not sold in Singapore)
this photo ain't well taken, but if you notice the Pisa bottle. they designed it to lean like the Tower of Pisa.
herbal liqueurs in colourful bottles.
i must admit, i went back to Market Square. this one looks tempting, so i just had to try.
i ordered 牛肉串,猪肉串,还有鸡ken wing. i was reminded of satay. i think this is the closest i can get. anyway, the chicken wing is marvellous. they got sprinkle some special flavouring which makes the taste superb. i'll be back!
actually, the reason i went back to Market Square was to try the desserts and buy dessert for my housemates. just now that bbq place i pass by only. the place is run by a pretty taiwanese girl(not shown in picture), flawless complexion.
芝麻糊,sesame paste. not like the ones in Singapore.
by the time i finished dessert and intend to go home, sky's already dark.
i took the bus back to the City. on the way there was lightning storm. and by the time i reached City, there was heavy rain. so i got stuck outside a shopping mall. they had interesting christmas diplays, so i used up the last of my battery life to take the following few pics.
that's all folks.
