Down the drain

i found a recipe for Mint Vinegar online. and since yesterday i finally got all that i needed, today i decided to start making it. so i went on to process the mint leaves, blend them, simmer the vinegar, add blended leaves and sugar, simmer more.
and once done, i went to the sink to pour the outcome into a glass bottle i bought. while pouring, i heard crackling sound. next moment, the bottom of the bottle fell off, and everything flowed down the drain.

I threw everything away.

Is Your Jar Full?

Let me share a story i came across, to all of you reading my blog.

A Professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the Professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open area between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The Professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "Yes."

The Professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the Professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your health, your love, your friends, your favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your work, your house, your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first", he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal. After the more important ones are taken care of. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

When he had finished, there was a profound silence. Then one of the students raised her hand and with a puzzled expression, inquired what the beer represented.

The Professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the jar......and the beer.

Queensland Fire and Rescue

after i got home from school today, i made myself a bowl of cereal. and when i looked out to the street, i was surprised by Queensland Fire and Rescue right at the doorstep. 11 o'clock in the afternoon. when we see this, it usually spells that something is very wrong.

at first, i wondered what was wrong. i quickly went to take my camera just in case something amazing happens, and i could get a few shots. but all was quiet...

and they suddenly started spraying at the tree. now, i thought there was some bushfire or something like the tree caught fire. but then again, there was no smoke, and it is winter right now.

at the start of the 'operation', he was the only hero i saw.

and then came another, which makes '2 mates better than 1'. for the whole 15 mins, i saw only this 2.

while the trees were continuously being sprayed at, i wondered if there was another person controlling the hose.

at the end of it, they drove off, leaving a mini-pool on the road. i came to a conclusion. in times like this, the Department must have taken on a part-time job. to water trees.

Feast Tonight

Had a feast of food tonight with all housemates and some other friends they've invited.
It wasn't any special occasion, but i think it's great to have people come have fun and eat altogether. and what you'll be seeing in the following pictures are reasons why i don't really miss Singapore at all.

with a beautiful blonde, picture will always look fabulous regardless of how you take it

on the left, stir-fry broccoli by Lidong. with help from Georgina 90% of the time. make it 95, no, 99 sounds more factual.

rich chocolate cake with strawberries, courtesy of Marjo.

home-made coconut candy, courtesy of Maria. we're just so lucky to have tried it.

stir-fry chicken with basil and chili. chicken was slighty dry and hard.

leafy greens with oyster sauce. i feel that the sauce is too salty.

this is the U.L.T.I.M.A.T.E. curry chicken, courtesy of Bhupi. it is just so so so fantastic.

sambal brinjal with carrots and tomato, courtesy of adeline, katherine and georgina. fragrant, thou not as spicy as the chicken curry. brinjals were cooked to perfection.

Bhupi leading the opening ceremony. haha...

look at the spread

and so they recommended eating the cake with vanilla ice cream

after dinner there was talk, fun, music, dance and lots of laughter. great atmosphere. too bad i had work to complete.

洁莹, wish you were here.

The night is darkest just before the dawn...

Went to watch 'Dark Night' with me housemates today. when i got to the box office, i realized the setting of the whole cinema level looked very similar to Cineleisure back in SG.

the show was good, because Heath Ledger did a fantastic job of acting as the Joker. A round of applause and a minute of silence, please.

anyway, that's the only reason why it's good. the whole storyline was there to continue what left off in Batman Begins, and also introduce some new characters. other than some messy parts, not bad on the whole. One question i had in my mind was: with all the high tech gadgets Bruce Wayne could afford as batman, why couldn't he add in a voice changer or something of the sort? is there a reason he likes to sound like he has a banana stuffed up his ass? we shall see about that if there were to be a Batman 3.

while watching the movie, i somehow forgot that i was in Australia. felt like i was in SG, until when i came out from the cinema, then i realised i'm in brisbane. sometimes i still can't quite believe i'm here where i am. times like these makes me wish i'd never left. hope all you people there are doing fine. take care.
