Minister of Defence

Yup. as the title suggests, i met the Minister of Defence of Singapore, Mr Teo Chee Hean. there was a dinner at Stamford Plaza, Brisbane. it was an event organized by Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU), to invite all members for an complimentary get-together dinner. given the chance to attend some event, get some exposure and feast on free food, how could i ever pass this chance? food was good, had seconds. but after the food, there wasn't much reason to linger around. hence i left with a friend at about 8plus, resisting a third go.

as i left the hotel, i saw this baby. if my information is not wrong, it should be a Bentley T1, from the Bentley T series produced in late 60's and early 70's.

somehow i feel the picture taken looks as old as the car.

anyway, i didn't bring along the keys, so i had to walk back to the City. and along the way, passing this joint. such an insult.

i had the pizza craving and manage to find a decent place and ordered 2 slices of pizza with my friend. this is the BBQ Meat.

Supreme

the night was still young and so was i. therefore, i dropped in on this arcade somewhere in the City. and had some of my macho-ness tested out by playing this shooting simulation game. look closely at the screen, spot who he is?
"Are you insane? One man against trained commandos... Who do you think this man is? God?"
Colonel Trautman: No. God would have mercy. He won't. "

"Who are you?"
Rambo: Your worst nightmare.

Argh!!!!
DIE!!!!

well, after fighting those buggers, Louie-bo has to refuel. at La Dolce Vita again, ordered 'ze cheezecakez'. there used to be only 1 cheesecake i like, and that was the one at ikea. now... there's 2.

it's texture is thick, melts almost immediately in your mouth, with creamy smoothness and a lingering light cheese taste.

ok, i didn't know i got snapped here.

Summer, but not before the exams.

i received an email few days ago, and it said:

"Congratulations!

You have been awarded a Summer Research Scholarship at The University of Queensland. The Summer Semester 20008/09 commences 24 November and you must discuss your project start date with your supervisor....."

yeap. and so i got it. scholarship.

i heard they're paying Aud$300 a week, for either 6 or 8 weeks, depending how long my summer vacation project will take. i got a project with a Dr Ulrike Kappler, working on 'Redox proteins involved in sulfur compound conversions in bacterial cells', something like that. it's gonna start on 17th Nov all the way until February, first week maybe. there's gonna be a month of break during December.

BUT, all these won't happen before the exams are over. damn, it sucks.

The Killing Kind

i was at a friend's place for dinner this evening, and i happened to catch the latest season 9 of CSI:Vegas. after missing out on the show for a while, i lost track of all the character developments; nonetheless, it was still good to watch afterall.

in a particular scene in the show, where they apprehended the killer to the murder of a woman. and Grissom was there for the guy's statement. the guy was telling why he killed the woman, and then there was something in particular that he commented that got my attention and made me think.

"Have you loved someone so much that you would kill them?".

Well, will you?

爱你爱到杀死你。

HairJob

oh... yeah. finally got the mess on my head trimmed out.

school started at 9am. so i woke my sleepy ass at about 830am. washed up, and trudged to school in company of the sounds of Aerosmith's {Crazy}. blah blah blah, lesson over, so then i accompanied a friend to the local Chinese mart at Mitre street to check out some stuff; and i bought a totally unappealing, cold Bacon & Cheese bread from the bakery nearby. cost me Aud$1.80. well, no choice, i got home and settled the bread with a can of Baked beans in Tomato, but not before microwaving it and adding more cheese. that settles breakfast. subsequently did nothing but surfed around the WWW, and started to consider if i should go for a hair-restructurization session. after a few checks in front of the mirror, oh what the hell... and so i hopped into something casual and went to the Uni Hair Salon, located at the Union in school.

i got in. made myself comfortable on those waiting-list chairs. and then was asked, 'hello, do you have an appointment?'.

Huh!? appointment? to cut hair? 'No', i said, 'can i make one now?'.

and so she looked at her timeslots, 'a quarter past 12, is it ok?'.

'sure'. 'and what is your name', she asks.

'Louie. L-O-U-I-E'.

i got a glimpse of my name written on her book, Lui. ok, whatever.

i didn't had my watch with me, so i asked her what time was it. and then she pointed to the clock behind me and told me i just have to wait for another 10mins. so i thought that i might as well sit down and read some bitchy female magazine for entertainment. there was plenty available. but a holiday travel book caught my eye, and next thing i know, i was introduced to Bali.

the wait didn't take long, barely got the chair warmed when someone else called for 'Lui'. she got me settled in front of a mirror, and i told her to just give me the usual trim. swiftly, she went to work. occasionally stopping to tend to new customers coming in or to pick up a phone call. took about 30, or maybe 40 minutes, and then it was done. so i paid my Aud$17 and left. the main reason that i didn't intend to cut my hair was because haircuts here are expensive. this one in school was normal priced. but overall, i felt the hairjob was great, and here's how i console myself it was worth and i'm satisfied with the price.

$4 --> she was blonde
$4 --> and attractive
$3 --> had sweet voice
$2 --> smelled great
$2 --> was gentle
$2 --> had skill

WHAT am i thinking. anyway, i rushed home for a shower as the loose hair was irritating the hell outta me.
for those of you, wanting a glimpse of what i look like now, it's just neat lah.
somehow from this:

become this:

in my damn dreams :)

November

November.

a favorite month of mine. not because it rains a lot and the fact that i love to listen to 'November Rain' on a rainy day. it's because that is a month when exams occur. yes, EXAMS. you know, when i first had the notion of going to a university for studies, it dawned on me that it is a fantastic place to learn. why? because it is a place where there's knowledge. an immense collection of knowledge. but of course, there’s a lot of knowledge in universities because the freshmen bring a little in; the seniors don’t take much away, so knowledge sort of accumulates. and how lecturers or professors always repeat what they've taught over and over, through the years. if i was one, i'd say i'll post my lectures on Youtube. everyone gets to learn, for free, too. for those of you, who've been to a college or university, it would be all too familiar that every lecturer assumes that you have nothing else to do except study for that instructor’s course. and upon that, we're left to assume that everything we study are examinable. which kinda makes us think that 'are they sure they're gonna test us on everything?'. As of course, to which you do not have any choice, but to go head on and study everything. with the fact in mind that,
the more studying you did for the exam, the less sure you are as to which answer they want. and furthermore, 80% of the final exam will be based on the one lecture you missed and the one book you didn’t read.

at the end of the day, or exams, we'd just all be happy that it's finally over. but then, isn't life just a whole collection of test and exams? be it in school or not. t
he difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.

for those of you who are free, do play this game. only available from 6pm to 6am.

my exams are coming. 3, 4, 7, 13.

House

It's been a week. many things have happened. around the world, that is, but nothing for me. i was only having a week of spring break. no big deal. been slacking around as usual. but, school's starting again.

if you guys think i'm having an extremely happening life in Australia, sorry to disappoint. am having the same shit, different day, different place. this week is supposed to be a week to catch up on lectures, revision. but then again, all i did was to stay home, surf net and watch some other shows at a friends place. manage to watch a movie at the cinema thou, Eagle Eye. i personally think it's a good show, and felt it was worth the money to watch at the cinema. the plot might not be very new, but there's something amazing about the pace of the show and its flow. people out there wanting to catch a show, should be watching this.

and then i've been indulging in TV series House and Fringe. the reason to watch House is the way he does medical diagnostics, such a maverick and genius. but outside of that, it's just so funny to watch the way he delivers the character's unorthodox diagnostic approaches, radical therapeutic motives, and stalwart rationality with lack of empathy and sympathy. and then there's Fringe, i wonder they have aired it in SG, but it's also another interesting show. Fringe follows the exploits of FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop, and his son Peter as they investigate aspects of fringe science (telepathy, levitation, invisibility, reanimation, etc). with such shows, i think i should be getting cable when i get home. not to mention the CSI i've been missing out.
